Welcome to ‘The 8th Asia Pacific Triennial of Contemporary Art’. APT8 presents new and recent works by artists from across Asia, Australia and the Pacific.
Distinguished by its sustained engagement with a specific geographical region, each APT offers an opportunity to conduct detailed research into new developments, enduring cultural practices and the relationship of art to shifting social and economic structures.
The increasingly interdisciplinary and mobile nature of contemporary art throughout the region is a major conceptual thread of APT8. The body, figuration and performance, in dialogue with experiments in scale and form, are explored.
A broad representation of media, generations and social backgrounds may be found in the selection of artists and artworks, and emerging centres of grassroots activity are profiled alongside new tendencies in established artistic contexts. Focus projects explore indigenous and vernacular art in India and performance in the Pacific.
Installed across QAG and GOMA, APT8 comprises work of more than 80 artists and groups.
A number of short artist videos with Auslan translation and captions are available for viewing on mobile devices in the Gallery. Look for the Auslan and CC symbols on selected artwork labels in QAG and GOMA or download the OpenAccess Tours app. The videos can also be viewed online through QAGOMA TV.
