Brothers Ramin and Rokni Haerizadeh collaborate with Hesam Rahmanian to construct provocative installations that challenge conventional modes of display and standards of value. The theatrical tradition of Ta’ziyeh, a type of passion play, is a particularly important influence on their practice with its use of props, theatricality, cross-dressing and irony. Sets and costumes are comprised of everyday and personal items, with the audience drawn into moments within the play.

The installation’s performative call-and-response title – “All The Rivers Run Into The Sea. Over.” / “Copy. Yet, The Sea Is Not Full. Over.” – signals the way that artists seek to create conversations and collaborations with other artists, museum staff and audiences. In this work, the artists recreate a version of their Dubai home-studio, a medley of influences from Persian poetry, modernist art, illuminated manuscripts, miniature painting, pop culture and political events. The installation embeds art in daily life through the equal treatment of everyday objects and artworks. The all-encompassing artwork becomes a set for the viewer, who, by stepping onto the stage, takes on the role of both performer and audience.
