As GOMA celebrates its tenth anniversary, January 2017 also marks the tenth year of QAGOMA’s Kids on Tour program. ‘Kids on Tour’ is an extension of the programs held at the Gallery’s Children Art Centre.
Over the past ten years, the Gallery has toured 13 ‘Kids on Tour’ programs starting with Kids’ APT Summer Spectacular in 2007 which travelled to 18 venues and attracted an audience of 5,706. Ten years on, the current ‘Kids on Tour’ will travel to 81 venues around Queensland between January and April 2017.
We are excited that this year’s program has been developed with artists from far north Queensland whose ancestral homeland is Bentinck Island in the Gulf of Carpentaria.
The Children’s Art Centre collaborated with sisters Elsie, Dorothy and Amanda Gabori to create specially designed hands-on making and multimedia activities that invite children to consider the unique and important relationship the Kaiadilt people share with the sea and discover the creatures that inhabit the waters around Bentinck Island.
Venues taking part include regional art galleries, remote schools, hospitals and community centres.
