One of the Gallery’s Visitor Services Officers testing out one of the Gallery’s new electric scooters

When you next visit the Queensland Art Gallery or the Gallery of Modern Art you might see our newest recruits: two new racing-red electric mobility scooters.

The remarkable generosity and foresight of Foundation Special Patron and 2015 QAGOMA Medal recipient Win Schubert AO enabled the purchase of these fantastic new vehicles. With fresh polish and custom plates WS1 at QAG and WS2 at GOMA, our two new additions have permanent posts in each building where they can be loaned out by visitors free of charge.

While wheelchairs have been available for use at both Gallery’s via our Information Desks, our two mobility scooters offer a new level of independent access and will be available to assist visitors with disability in traversing the gallery areas within each building.

We invited Gary, one of our friendly Gallery Visitor Services Officers to take a scooter around the lifts, corridors and exhibition spaces of QAG. ‘It handles like a dream,’ he told us a few minutes later as he coasted to a stop.

To book a scooter for assisted mobility at either QAG or GOMA, contact the Information Desk between 10am and 5pm by calling +61 (0)7 3840 7303 at least one full day prior to visiting. Please note that bookings are subject to availability and conditions apply. Find out more about on-site access and planning your visit to QAGOMA.
