Queensland week at the QAGOMA Store

To celebrate Queensland week we were inspired to support local artists, so let’s profile some of our favourite artists and makers from the ‘Sunshine State’ whose work we stock in our Gallery Stores.

Queensland Week is an annual celebration that centres around the state’s birthday on 6 June. Moves towards statehood began with a public meeting in 1851 to consider separation from New South Wales. As the push for separation gained momentum, Queen Victoria was approached to consider establishing a separate colony based on Moreton Bay. The Queen gave her approval and signed the Letters Patent on 6 June 1859, now known as Queensland Day.

The QAGOMA Store also has three retail outlets — two at the Queensland Art Gallery (QAG) at each entrance and another at the Gallery of Modern Art (GOMA). Together they specialise in high-quality books on today’s most exciting, challenging and influential contemporary artists and designers, history and design. A sophisticated selection of design objects, contemporary art merchandise, gifts and a stunning range of jewellery by Australian and international designers with a handmade focus.
