Spoil your mum with a long lunch at the GOMA Restaurant which includes a four course menu with the option of matched wines. The GOMA Restaurant delivers a dining experience as contemporary and creative as the artwork which surrounds it, with a focus on local ingredients, we work with growers and suppliers to source produce at its peak, profile new ingredients and rediscover forgotten ones. View our menu, book online or call (07) 3842 9916.

Alternatively treat mum with a two-course lunch at the GOMA Cafe Bistro, uniquely situated under GOMA’s verandah overlooking Brisbane by the river. 2 | Take a wander through our Australian art collection and re-visit Gallery favourites such as Under the jacaranda by Godfrey Rivers.

Did you know that the jacaranda tree in this painting is of Australian botanical significance as it was probably the first jacaranda tree to be grown in Australia. Native to South America, the species arrived in Brisbane in 1864 and probably many of the jacaranda trees in Brisbane are progeny of this original plant.

Walter Hill, the first Curator of the Brisbane City Botanic Gardens, in his diary, noted that by 1875 he had given away approximately 50,000 seeds and cuttings. Of interest, this original tree remained in the Gardens until it was blown over by a storm in 1979.
