Chiharu Shiota’s enveloping, ethereal creations give form to intangible concepts. Like skin covering the body, a dress symbolises the boundary between one’s personal interior and exterior, suspending a dress in a space filled with black thread conveys a sensation of presence in absence. Shiota’s Reflection of Space and Time blends an illusory dress and the actual dress.
GOMA is the exclusive Australian venue for ‘Chiharu Shiota: The Soul Trembles’ in The Fairfax Gallery (1.1), Gallery 1.2 and the Eric & Marion Taylor Gallery (1.3), Gallery of Modern Art (GOMA), Brisbane from 18 June – 3 October 2022.
